You know why I'm pissed off at Nike? Because they took the "Just Do It" slogan. I want that slogan. I want it because it is the answer to every reason you could possibly give me for not doing things you know you should be doing...things that are good for you and that ultimately make you feel better. Let's try it out...
You: "I don't have time to work out today."
Me: "Uh, I doubt that. Here are some ideas. Just Do It"
Get up 1/2 hour early, or workout for 1/2 hour at lunch, or workout for 1/2 hour before you eat dinner, or workout while you watch a TV show in the evening. You can even squeeze in some exercise while you brush your teeth (squats), while you pet your dog (sit ups), while you talk on the phone (power walk up and down your block, or walk up and down the stairs in your house).
You: "It's too cold and windy outside to go workout"
Me: "Oh really. I had 12 senior citizens show up for my Aqua Aerobics class this morning, in the same cold and wind that you're complaining about. Now stop whining, and Just Do It."
If the weather isn't perfect, you just need to compensate by being prepared and dressing properly. Try dressing in layers so that you start out nice and toasty warm, and as you get moving, you can peel off layers. The aqua ladies that brave the colder morning temperatures to get in the pool....they often bundle up in big beach towels or in bathrobes for the long walk from the locker room to the pool. No matter how bad the weather is, they always show up for class. It's totally inspiring!
You: "I'm too tired to workout."
Me: "Unless you literally can not keep your body in motion, in a safe manner, well, then I just don't accept that excuse. So Just Do It."
And seriously, if you are so tired that you don't think you can exercise safely, then don't exercise. Health and safety always come first. But otherwise, my advise is to "play dumb." That is, don't even think about it. Just go through the motions to get ready for your workout. Put on your workout clothes and start with an easy warm up. You'll find that, 9 out of 10 times, you'll perk up and slide right into your workout. It's often just the getting started part that's so tough.
So there you have it, three examples of how to keep on track so that you can say, "I Just Did It!" Does Nike use that slogan too? How about No Excuses...is that one taken?

Unbelievable. Had lunch with husband today. And out of the blue, he says to me, "I just don't have time to get to the gym to workout." I looked at him, laughed, and said, "You do so. Read my blog post for today!"
