I recently had a friend tell me that she had found the perfect workout on line, and that she was doing this one routine every time she went to the gym. You know, I hated to burst her bubble, but, I had to tell her the truth about her "One Perfect Workout." And so, after commending her on her energy and newfound commitment to exercising, I explained to her why she should not just do this one workout every session.
When you do the same workout all of the time, your body gets very used to and very efficient at doing this routine. That equates to less effectiveness for weight loss and fat loss.
It is important to change things up in your exercise plan. Changes in the exact movements, intensity, duration, and frequency, will keep your body working hard to keep up, and will be most effective at burning calories and effecting changes in your body composition and fitness level.
I applaud my friend for getting back on the fitness wagon and for finding a workout that she finds fun and challenging. Now, to mix that one workout in with a bunch of other fun, challenging workouts, and constantly change the variables....that will bring magical results!!
